A FEW YEARS AGO I REMEMBER THAT ALWAYS AT DINNER TIME, THEY USED TO DO A PROGRAM ABOUT HOUSES, HOW THEY WERE DESIGNED AND BUILT, WITHOUT LEAVING OUT A SINGLE STEP OF THE PROCESS.
IN THIS PROGRAM THERE WERE HOUSES OF ALL KINDS. I REMEMBER THEY BUILT A HOUSE IN A CANTALOUPE, A HIKER’S SHELTER NEXT TO A FROZEN LAKE, A HOUSE THAT THEY HAD TO TRANSPORT BY HELICOPTER AND EVEN AN ISOLATED HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST NEXT TO A WATERFALL.
THIS PROGRAM CONSISTED OF SHOWING US AMAZING HOUSES AND THEIR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION PROCESS, SHOWING US HOW THEY TRANSPORTED THE MATERIALS, THE DECISIONS THEY MADE, THE PROBLEMS THEY ENCOUNTERED, ETC.
WHAT I AM HERE TO TALK ABOUT IS PREFABRICATED HOUSES. THIS TYPE OF HOUSING IS BUILT IN A FASTER WAY IN A WAREHOUSE AND THEN TRANSPORTED EITHER IN PARTS OR AS A WHOLE BY DIFFERENT MEANS OF TRANSPORT EITHER BY TRUCK, BOAT, HELICOPTER, ETC.. THIS METHOD IS USED A LOT WHEN THE WORK SITE WHERE THE HOUSE IS GOING TO BE BUILT IS DIFFICULT TO ACCESS, IS SMALL, IS IN A DANGEROUS PLACE LIKE FOR EXAMPLE A CLIFF. BUT ABOVE ALL, IN THIS PROGRAM I LEARNED THAT THIS METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION IS VERY USEFUL WHEN THE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE UNFAVORABLE AND CAN CONSIDERABLY DAMAGE THE MATERIALS OF THE PROJECT.
MY REFLECTION ON THIS MATTER IS THE FOLLOWING:
THIS TYPE OF DWELLING, WHICH IS CREATED BY PARTS OR TOGETHER IN A FACTORY AND IS SUBSEQUENTLY MOVED AND PLACED IN THEIR RESPECTIVE PLACES, CAN CARRY CERTAIN PROBLEMS. FOR EXAMPLE DAMAGE DURING TRANSPORT, MEASUREMENT ERRORS, INSITU ERRORS, AND MANY MORE ERRORS THAT WOULD OCCUR LESS OFTEN IF PARTS OF THE HOUSE WERE BUILT ON SITE.HOWEVER THIS MODERN TYPE OF HOUSE IS CHEAPER AND MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT.
FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THIS MODERN METHOD MAY BE VERY USEFUL AND NECESSARY UN SOME PARTICULAR CASES, BUT I AM A DEFENDER OF THE TRADITIONAL METHOD. I’M NOT SAYING THAT BUILDING A HOUSE ON SITE IS BETTER THAN CARRYING IT PREFABRICATED. EVERY METHOD HAS ITS PROS AND CONS
